Homophobia


Homophobia is a strange word. It describes strange people. They have a choice to dislike gay people, yet the people they dislike don’t have a choice of being gay.
 
There could be so much said about the subject, but I’d quite simply like to say one thing: If you’re born gay, you can’t change who you are – you’re not born homophobic, why change?

    I think it initially describes people who don't know better...it's when they become stubborn about being educated when it becomes a problem.

      Hi Penny, actually I just wanted to say “Thank You” to everyone for letting me be included in your Hop Against Homophobia. I am afraid I am not a talented m/m fiction writer like yourself but I am an avid reader of it.

      Actually when you are a straight girl who writes gay porn for an adult studio it is hard to fit in anywhere so I really appreciated how warmly I was welcomed into your group.

    It's very sad that these people go out of their way to make others unhappy. We should all be allowed to live our lives in the way we want. If no one is being hurt or forced - there is NO problem. You're quite right - we are what we are.

      I used to think the best way to get your point across was to talk out loud. Now I think it doesn't hurt to let others talk for you. Let's hope all these people who are blogging and posting are talking loud enough for everyone. :) You're in the draw also.

      Hi Kim. So true. There are a lot of people who are uncomfortable in their skin, and they don't always know why, so the pick on others who come across as different. I like individuality. It would be a boring world otherwise. Thanks for your comment, and I've put you in the draw.

    That's such a great quote: "you're not born homophobic, why change?" It's sad that that Rodgers and Hammerstein song "You've Got To Be Carefully Taught," which was written in 1949, is still so relevant today, even if it was technically about xenophobia and racism...

      Hi. I think all forms of phobia's and ism's that harm others should be wiped out, and I beleive they eventauly will. It might still take a few more years, but at sometime in the future humanity won't care what race, creed or sexual oriantation we are, we'll just be a mixed pot of people. Thanks for your comment.     Thank you so much for participating in the hop. I hope that this helps to spread the word and that one day a hop like this will no longer be needed. I have shown many of the post to my nieces and nephews. We recently have been discussing how damaging bullying is and how innocent remarks can make you be seen as being a bully. One of the things that makes me mad is when I hear...you're so gay... pisses me off. These post have helped them already. I heard my nephew stand up to someone that called someone else a hurtful name... I was so proud. Thank you all for helping by sharing hurtful and/sad memories and your personal views/message.
    I pray one day for equality for EVERYONE not just some.

    That is very to the point. Another piece I have been seeing during the blog hop is that homophobia is a choice, homosexuality is not. It is too bad so many people seem to forget that.

      Hi Leaundra. I was born straight as well, and I never questioned it. It's a shame that people who are born gay sometimes have to question who or what they are because of other's actions and words. I know that will all change, I'm just hoping it will change soon.
